Repackaging Hollywood Movies

February 27, 2014

It’s nearly time for the Oscars. In the midst of all the glamour, Diors, Versaces, limos and lights, it’s all just a celebration of movies.

The Ernest Packaging Solutions family is a nationwide company of expert packaging consultants and engineers, but our headquarters is here in Los Angeles, just across town from the Hollywood Hills. So we’re no strangers to the magic of movie making.

But with our focus on unique, custom and cost-effective packaging solutions to consumer challenges, something about all the extravagance of the Oscars just seems a bit much. Maybe it’s just sour grapes after our Ernest Challenge Videos were snubbed last year, but come on, how could The Quick and the Tim or Jaws VI: The Re-Reckoning miss out on Oscar gold?

You know what we are into though? Hilariously creative “repackaging” of movies like those of Cardboard Box Office, who take photos of recreated movie scenes using corrugated. Check out these from “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Apollo 13.”

Did you ever see the film “Be Kind, Rewind,” where an enigmatic video store owner accidentally erases every VHS tape and has to recreate low-budget versions of the movies for people to rent in order to keep his store open?

Yeah, us neither.

But it did happen, we promise. And it gave the world the term “Sweded,” which is used to describe these (often unintentionally) hilarious movie remakes.

Still not following? Just watch this “Sweded” version of the Pacific Rim trailer:

Let’s take a look at all the packaging products they used:

Now that’s entertainment!
