The band just got bigger. Corrugated cardboard has never looked and sounded so delightful. Move over Fender guitar, bass and Masters of Maple drum kit, the Wurlitzer electric keyboard is here to steal the show. And boy, does it. It’s a true testament to what can be achieved when innovation and imagination make music together.
This installment of Cardboard Chaos takes us to LA with Ernest’s design director, Mike Martinez, Signal Studios and Grammy-winning composer and producer Roberto Schilling. You thought keyboards had a lot of parts on the outside; just think about the inside. Originally a garage sale special, it took the team several hours to take the 1950s machine down to the keys. And many, many more to build it back up, cutting, shaping and detailing the casing to reimagine the classic instrument’s distinctive look.
Its inaugural session did not disappoint. Roberto Schilling took our breath away with a beautiful melodic jam session featuring the other cardboard instruments and an impressive crew. The result? One hell of a show. Just try not to be in a good mood after watching this one.
Stay tuned for our next Cardboard Chaos adventure. Any guesses on what’s coming next?
