From our upcoming surfboard to virtual reality headsets to Transformers, we’ve seen lots of amazing things made out of cardboard. Now kids all over the world are being challenged to create the wildest, craziest things that they can imagine.

The Global Cardboard Challenge was inspired by the mindblowingly awesome Caine’s Arcade video. (If you haven’t seen it yet, stop whatever you’re doing and watch it now. We’ll wait.) During this annual global event, kids of all ages are asked to build things with cardboard and recycled material. Of course, their most important tool is their imagination.

And now for the really fun part: On Saturday, October 11, communities all over the world will get together to play with the cool stuff that people built! People will be sharing their pictures and stories on social media with the hashtag #cardboardchallenge. Ernest Packaging will be sure to share some of our favorites with you on our Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest pages. If you’re interested in participating or hosting an event, visit imagination.is.

Last year’s grand prize winners were the students in the film club at the Out-of-Door Academy in Sarasota, Fla.

We at Ernest spend so much of our time thinking and imagining ways to use cardboard — and bubble wrap and wood pallets and the list goes on — to help our customers. We couldn’t be more proud of these young people — and possible future Ernest employees? — for showing such creativity and innovation. We can’t wait for October 11 to see what they create!
