Summer is ending, and the kids are back at school. That got us thinking about fun activities for kids that use packaging material. Whether you’re a parent of pre-school kids or just looking for some ways to entertain the nieces and nephews you’re babysitting — here are some good family-bonding projects.

Corrugated Time Machine

You and your little Marty McFly can build your very own time machine. This one doesn’t even need to get up to 88 miles per hour!

Cardboard Shield and Sword

All innovation — like what happens in Ernest’s Innovation Lab — is fueled by creativity and imagination. We want to encourage kids to use their imaginations to dream of new and exciting ideas.

With this cool DIY shield and sword, your kids can play make believe and take themselves to the worlds of Robin Hood, Narnia or anywhere else they can dream up.

DIY Wheelbarrow

For the younger kids, this cute wheelbarrow is not only easy — only taking five minutes to put together — but it also helps you get some manual labor out of your kids. Put ‘em to work!

Bubble Wrap Twister

Twister is almost 50 years old, but kids still love it. Now you can even make your own version of it at home! Right foot blue. Left hand red. Always fun.

These activities are fun, but they also get kids to think creatively about ways to use everyday materials. At Ernest Packaging, we use that same childlike curiosity on a much bigger scale to find new solutions for our clients. In just a few weeks, we’ll be unveiling a toy for grownup kids that we’ve made: a cardboard surfboard! We can’t wait for you to see it.
