The Big Game between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots is just a few days away on February 1, 2015. There is so much to love about the Super Bowl — the football, the commercials, the massive bowls of nacho cheese — but one of our favorite parts is the halftime show.

Sunday’s Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show will feature Katy Perry, and it got us marveling at the logistics of how to put on a massive concert — including complete set-up and tear-down — in the middle of a football game. It might seem like magic, but it’s really a testament to incredible preparation and detail.

Hammish Hamilton, director of the Pepsi Super Bowl XLVII Halftime Show featuring Beyonce, said that the 2013 show required a year of detailed planning and the participation of thousands of people.

“Everything built has to be on wheels and has to be not too heavy,” Hammish told The Guardian. “Anything that would usually be simple is incredibly difficult in a stadium, and you have to do it halfway through the world’s biggest game of football. It is a unique set of challenges.”

Although the performer isn’t selected until a few months before the halftime show, it takes nearly an entire year to plan and prepare for the big moment. According to Hammish, he and his team have to think through every possible scenario — broken lights, failed generators, audio problems — so that nothing can surprise them.

It’s the unique challenges in logistics and packaging that really intrigue us at Ernest. Much like Hammish and his team do with the halftime show, you should be prepared for any scenario or problem that could affect your packaging — like we did when figuring out how to ship chocolate cakes across the county. That’s why we have “Solutions” in our name. You don’t just need cardboard or bubble wrap or wood crates; you need a problem solver.

You need a logistics and packaging partner that can get you into the end zone. Before your next packaging project or shipment, call contact Ernest today to get ready for your big game day.
