Throwback Thursday - Everyday Packaging: Packing Your Suitcase

We’re so close to the long holiday weekend and are ready to pack our bags for a little R&R. In honor of Labor Day weekend, this Throwback Thursday gives some packing tips to make the most of everyday packaging: your suitcase. Enjoy the holiday!

So you may be planning your summer vacation or honeymoon soon, and if you’re like me, you’re already having a bit of anxiety about cramming all you can into your suitcase.

So how do we translate that packaging expertise into something for everyday use? Just follow these packing tips for your next getaway.

Find smaller containers.

You don’t need to bring a full bottle of shampoo, conditioner and lotions on your flight. It just takes up valuable shoe space and added weight. Instead, transfer small amounts to smaller containers like empty pill bottles or little travel containers you buy from the store.

Utilize empty space.

Your shoes take up a lot of space, but they don’t have to be useless. The insides of shoes are perfect for socks, belts, ties or plastic bags with loose accessories like watches, makeup and jewelry.

*To keep your clothes clean, pack your shoes first and wrap them in a plastic bag or shower cap.

Roll your clothes.

Lay a shirt face down on your bed and fold the sleeves in so they touch the back of the shirt, then fold lengthwise once and roll tightly from the bottom to the top. This keeps your shirts from wrinkling and is a great way to maximize space. You can also roll jeans and pants (always roll from the bottom up).

Use rubber bands to keep your clothes from unrolling while packing or during transit.

Put soft items on top.

Underwear and other soft clothing is good on top because it will easily be compressed when you go to close the bag and will add a layer of cushion to items inside your bag as it makes its way to your vacation destination.
